Look for this page to help answer questions about the meaning of some of the policies of Slow Food at all levels. The leadership team will strive to keep the members informed when it becomes apparent that misunderstandings could lead to poor decisions, loss of interest, and other maladies which plague any organization with such a strong purpose.
Q: What do you mean by "good, clean, and fair"?

A: See the SFUSA short answer here. The manifesto contains more details (PDF).

Q: We pay dues to SFUSA, but not to our local chapter. Why?

A: SFUSA controls the formation and management of the local convivia rather tightly.  However, once SFUSA can be assured that a particular convivium is viable and growing, it will release a portion of the national dues back to the local organization.  It is up to the local convivium to raise additional funds for operational expenses not covered by the modest kick-back.

Due to significant complaints from the local convivia, SFUSA is reconsidering the dues structure and may soon allow a much larger portion of the dues to be retained by the local chapters, which is the norm for organizations with numerous local chapters.

Q: Why is there no Forum?

A: After over a year, the Forum had a total of less than 13 hours of use by members, almost half of which was by the Forum Administrator. Blogs and Facebook seem to be the preferred method of posting on the Internet, so the time spent by the Administrator was not worth the low level of use. The last post on the Forum was January, 2010 and there was a five-month dry spell before that.
